You are on the website of the index of documents held in the archive of the Scientific-Informational and Educational Center Memorial (SIEC Memorial), which houses the collection assembled in Moscow by the Memorial Society.
This archive is the result of over 30 years of work dedicated to preserving private memory of the history of state terror and resistance in the USSR. It contains millions of documents donated to Memorial by hundreds of thousands of individuals—along with interviews, memoirs, research collections, and much more. The archive is now available for online research.
The finding aid is divided into two main sections:
- Inventory of the archive’s collections: Contains the names and descriptions of the main archival fonds, series, and files. It covers about 90% of the archive, though the level of detail varies from collection to collection.
- Name index: Includes personal names, biographical data, and references to the files and documents in which these individuals are mentioned. This index covers only a small portion of the archive (mainly collections related to the history of repression in the 1930s–1950s).
At present, the English version is available only for a portion of the descriptions of fonds, series, and files. The inventories of documents and the name index are available in Russian only.
A significant part of the collections has been digitized. Whenever possible, we are happy to provide you with a digital copy of the materials. To request documents, please fill out the request form and indicate the file or document numbers you need.
